Is your tumble dryer one of the 8 million at risk of catching fire?
Published on the 4th April 2016

Faulty tumble dryers can become a fire risk: what you need to know from Ageas

Eight million tumble dryers that have been sold in the last 11 years by Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda brands may need to be fixed – this is because the excess fluff could reach the heating element in the machines and cause a fire. Five million of the affected dryers have been sold in the UK.

The manufacturer is asking owners to check whether their machine is one of those affected and, if so, to contact the company through Hotpoint's dedicated website or the matching Indesit website. If action is needed, an engineer will visit to mend the machine. Please do pass on this information to your customers. They are also able to register their appliances on www.registermyappliance.org.uk so that they are one of the first to know about safety repairs and recalls.

Customer queries and concerns

Should you have any queries referring to the above issue or require further advice please follow the below steps to identify if your tumble dryer is a fire risk:

If you have a Hotpoint, Indesit or Creda tumble dryer you will need to find the model and serial numbers on the machine and use the Hotpoint or Indesit website to check if the electrical appliance is safe.

You can find this information on a tag that is located on the dryer door, either in the recess or on the back. If the dryer is a Hotpoint or Creda, you can check whether you need to get the repair by putting the serial number through Hotpoint's site (https://safety.hotpoint.eu/); if it's an Indesit, you can check via Indesit's site (https://safety.indesit.eu/).

The serial number is found beneath the barcode and it's made up of the nine numbers following, but not including, 'S/N'. If your dryer is one of those affected you will need to visit Hotpoint website to confirm and arrange a free visit from an engineer.
